Setting Up the RoofBunk Adventurer

The RoofBunk Adventurer is a compact clamshell-style hard-shell roof tent engineered for speed, strength, and reliability.
Built with a fully aluminium shell, it combines rugged durability with one-person setup and a streamlined shape suited to long-distance travel.
This guide explains installation, setup, and care for safe, year-round performance.

Mounting and Installation

The Adventurer fits most roof-bar systems rated for a dynamic load of at least 75 kg.

Before fitting:

  • Space bars 70–95 cm apart.

  • Use high-strength aluminium or steel crossbars with flat or T-slot profiles.

  • Tighten mounting brackets evenly to avoid twisting the shell.

Because the tent weighs roughly 65 kg, it can be installed by two people without specialist equipment.
Once fitted, the clamshell design allows the tent to remain mounted all year, resisting weather and vibration during travel.

Setup Process

Setup is fast and straightforward — typically under one minute.

To open:

  1. Release the rear latches.

  2. Lift the front of the shell; gas-assist struts raise it automatically.

  3. Extend the telescopic ladder and lock it at a 70–75° angle.

  4. Secure the side awnings and adjust window vents.

To close:

  1. Remove or flatten bedding to mattress height.

  2. Pull down the top shell using the internal handles.

  3. Fold fabric inward and engage both latches until sealed.

The clamshell geometry allows quick deployment even in wind or rain and ensures consistent closure every time.

Interior Layout and Comfort

Inside, the Adventurer features:

  • 6 cm dual-density foam mattress with removable cover.

  • Two large side windows with mesh and blackout panels.

  • Roof vent for airflow and condensation control.

  • LED-light mount and storage pockets for essentials.

The interior height near the hinge offers ample sitting room, and the rigid frame keeps fabric tensioned for a quiet night’s sleep in windy conditions.

Build and Materials

  • Shell: 100 % aluminium with powder-coated finish.

  • Fabric: 280 gsm poly-cotton ripstop canvas (PU-coated, 3000 mm waterproof rating).

  • Base: Insulated aluminium sandwich panel.

  • Hardware: Stainless-steel hinges and gas struts.

This construction provides excellent rigidity, UV stability, and corrosion resistance — ideal for regular touring or coastal use.

Vehicle Compatibility

The Adventurer suits estates, SUVs, and medium-sized vans.
Closed height: 17 cm (front) – 26 cm (rear) for aerodynamic efficiency.
The angled shell minimises drag and noise while travelling, with negligible impact on fuel consumption.

Storage and Care

  • Allow fabric to dry fully before closure or long-term storage.

  • Clean shell with mild detergent and soft cloth; avoid abrasives.

  • Lubricate hinges, latches, and gas struts every six months with silicone spray.

  • For off-season storage, keep the tent slightly open in a dry area to maintain ventilation.

Summary

The RoofBunk Adventurer combines robust aluminium construction with rapid one-person setup.
Its aerodynamic clamshell design, stable weather protection, and compact profile make it ideal for travellers who value durability and efficiency on every journey.
