The Thule Approach range (S, M and L) represents Thule’s latest generation of roof tents, combining lightweight shell construction, advanced weather protection, and rapid setup technology.
All three sizes share the same core design and functionality, differing only in footprint and sleeping capacity.

Mounting & Installation

Each Thule Approach model uses the QuickFit mounting system, allowing tool-free installation on most roof-bar types.

Before mounting:

Ensure roof bars are rated for a dynamic load of at least 75 kg (S), 85 kg (M), or 90 kg (L).
Maintain a bar spacing between 70 – 90 cm.
Use Thule-approved aluminium or steel cross bars for maximum stability.

The supplied brackets tighten from inside the shell, minimising exterior protrusions and improving aerodynamics. Once installed, the tent can remain fitted year-round; the fibreglass-reinforced shell resists UV exposure and corrosion.

Setup Process

The Thule Approach series is engineered for one-minute deployment.

Release the stainless-steel latches.
Lift the top shell — gas-assist struts raise it automatically.
Extend the telescopic ladder and stabilise on firm ground.
Adjust the canopy poles and window awnings as required.

No additional poles or separate fabric tensioning is needed; the shell design supports itself once open.

Approach S: Compact and easy to handle — ideal for smaller vehicles.
Approach M: The most popular size, balancing space and portability.
Approach L: Offers the largest internal volume, suitable for families or long-term touring.

Interior Layout & Comfort

All models share the same premium internal design:

High-density foam mattress with removable washable cover.
Panoramic windows and dual skylights for ventilation and visibility.
Integrated LED-light cable routing and storage pockets on both sides.

The rigid floor and evenly supported mattress create a flat, stable sleeping surface.
In cold weather, the hard-shell design retains warmth efficiently while reducing condensation.

The Thule Approach range is rated for all-season use.
The combination of a rigid shell and treated fabric ensures water runoff even in sustained heavy rain.
Wind stability remains high in conditions up to 35 mph when mounted on rated bars.
Dual vents maintain airflow and help control condensation during overnight use.

For sub-zero trips, an insulation liner or thermal mattress layer can be fitted without affecting the closure height.

Storage & Maintenance

To close, fold internal fabric inward evenly and engage the compression latches until sealed.
Before storage, ensure the canvas and mattress are fully dry.
Clean with mild detergent and avoid abrasive cleaners or pressure washers.
Lubricate hinges and gas struts twice per year with silicone spray to preserve smooth operation.

Because the shell closes to under 32 cm (S/M) or 34 cm (L), all models remain garage-friendly and can be left mounted year-round without exceeding most 2 m car-park limits.
